Today a person who has been meaningful in my life died of prostate cancer. In the 70's as I was trying to figure out my life I heard a song called "There's a place in the world for a gambler." It was a simple melody and repetitive verses, but I remember the power it had in my life, the sense of permission he gave to me to roll the dice of life a little. I would have to say that subsequent albums matched the stage of life I was going through and his songs acted somewhat as soundtracks for my life.I fell away from being a fan when he released his best hits album, but his music and ideas have had a huge hand in shaping me into the man I have become. I found his lyrics to be some of the best around.
